The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Dmitri Slobodeniouk unpack a real Danish hit, the Fifth Symphony by Carl Nielsen, the composer who this season is central to the AVRO TROS Friday Concert. The Fifth Symphony demonstrates Nielsen’s unbridled expression urge. He found the image of the Danish music of his time, “docile and lethargic … I wanted powerful rhythms and modern harmonies.”
